Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), beginning Tuesday, will launch a campaign to reach out to every household in the state to gather feedback from people before preparing its poll manifesto.

Speaking to reporters here, BJD spokesperson Arun Sahoo said his party has decided to launch ‘Ghare Ghare Shankha: Matamata Diyanti Apana, Palana Karanti Naveen’ (Conch in every house: You give opinion, Naveen carries it out) programme on the 103rd birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik (March 5).

BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will launch the campaign in the capital. Members of the party’s women wing (Biju Mahila Janata Dal) will reach every household with a form to record opinion of people on the performance of the government’s schemes and how they want them to improve, Sahoo said.

He said the party by way of this exercise will try to feel the pulse of people and will incorporate their opinions in its election manifesto.

Setting an example for the country, the BJD government, soon after it had taken office in 2014, adopted its poll manifesto as a resolution in the first meeting of the council of ministers, he recalled.

Hinting at the BJP, he said, some political parties have failed to fulfil whatever promises they had made to people in their poll manifestos and called it a jumla.

The BJD government has , however, failed to fulfil its promises like setting up of cold storages in all 314 blocks, second agriculture university in KBK, career council centre is all colleges and warehousing facility in all panchayats, he said.

In his reaction to the BJD’s programme, senior BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan said, “Following us, they have announced such a programme. But, people have already rejected them.”

As per fulfillment of poll promise is concern, he said, “I will ask only one question – construction of pucca houses for poor people. Will the BJD give the details about how many people didn’t have pucca houses until 2014 and how many got houses in these five years?”

Calling the programme a ‘copy paste strategy’, another BJP leader Sameer Mohanty said, “After 19 years, why they think to visit every household? People have already rejected them and they will give a befitting reply.”

BJP has already launched a public interaction programmes ‘Jan Paramarsa Yatra’ across the state to gather opinion of people for preparation of its poll manifesto, he added.

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Niranjan Patnaik said, neither the BJD nor the BJP have fulfilled their poll promises. The BJD did nothing for the state be it for farmers, youths, health and education and socio economic development of the state.
