Kanpur: The BCCI felicitated former India Test captains ahead of the historic 500th Test at Green Park stadium here Thursday.
Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) president Rajeev Shukla felicitated former captains, including Ajit Wadekar, Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Kris Srikkanth, Ravi Shastri, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Anil Kumble and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The former captains were honoured with a shawl, a memento and a coin with the words ‘500th Test’ written on it. The Governor of UP Ram Naik, along with BCCI president Anurag Thakur handed over the mementos to the former skippers of the national side.
“It feels great,” stated Srikkanth after being honoured. “To be a part of India’s rich cricket history has really been wonderful. I am so lucky to have played some of those 500 Tests.” It should also be mentioned here that Sachin Tendulkar has played 200 Tests for the country, the highest by any Indian cricketer.
Conspicuous by their absence, were former India captains Bishan Singh Bedi and Gundappa Viswanath.
