Deep attachment is a characteristic feature of a lasting friendship. Kids crave the company of friends when they have a secret they can no longer keep to themselves or when they are badly in need of advice about an urgent emotional issue. Ahead of Friendship Day (August 2) they are agog with plans of celebration
Friendship is a very special relationship in life and humans are social creatures who can’t do without friends. Whether a person is 5 years old or 50, he would surely need a friend on whose shoulder to rest his head when tired or in whom to confide secrets not proper enough to discuss with family members. Friendship is not something which can be defined in flowery language; it’s that special bond which can only be felt. To celebrate such a wonderful relationship Friendship Day is observed every year but, of course, to celebrate such a deep and passionate bond we surely don’t need any particular day. Friendship Day falls on the first Sunday of August, this year it is August 2. So what are kids planning? Tying friendship bands on friends’ wrists, exchanging gifts or partying a lot? The day calls for celebrations and enjoyment in the company of closed pals and chums for sure. Kids divulge their plans to Orissa POST.
Anwesha Anshutam Bhanja, a LKG student of Carmel English Medium School says, “I have three special friends Aanandita, Riyanka and Aron and I have decided to get chocolates for them. As Sunday is a holiday and school will remain closed, I have decided to give them chocolates on Monday. As mama told me, I will hug each of them and wish Happy Friendship Day before giving them the chocolates. Besides, I will not forget to tell them Kuch Mitha Ho Jaye in Big B’s style.”
Nishchita Nayantika Parida, Class I student of RMK Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Chennai, says, “I want to celebrate with my best buddy Deepika. However, papa has decided to take me and mama to Rameswaram this weekend. So, I had to cancel my plan to visit Deepika’s house and give her a yellow rose. But I will visit her place soon after I return to wish her on the special day.”
Dibyajyoti Mallick, Class IV student of Kendriya Vidyalaya School in Bhadrak, says, “Friendship Day is the perfect occasion to let our friends know how much they are needed and loved. I am confused about what to do because I have many good pals. I cannot distinguish who is the best among them. So I have decided to give chocolates to everybody.”
For Anwesha Priyadarshini, a Class V student of St Xavier High School, Palaspalli, friendship day does not come once a year. She celebrates every day as Friendship Day. Anyway, she intends to celebrate the D-Day with her best friend Isat Jahan and wants to have a blast on the occasion. Jahan has already bought something for her friend but doesn’t want anybody to know it.
Class IX student Anurag Nanda says, “It is one of the most awaited days and an occasion to express my feelings and love for my friends. The first thing I will do is make a list of friends and categorise them into ‘close friends’ and ‘not-so-close friends.’ To be on the safe side I carry extra bands as you never know someone who is not in my list could well bring one for me.”
