New Delhi: Bhubaneswar, the first announced Smart City of the country, has been faring well in terms of the progress on the implementation levels of the Smart City Mission, officials from the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing said.
The sanctioned works under the Smart City Mission are going on at good pace in the state capital, the officials said. When asked about the progress of Bhubaneswar under the Smart City Mission, Sameer Sharma, Joint Secretary at the ministry, said: “Bhubaneswar is among top five cities in terms of progress when it comes to the Mission. They have a very good Command Control Centre of `500 crore.”
He also said a number of high profile companies had taken part in their technical evaluation and the boost in the infrastructure in the state capital is likely to be felt sooner.
He also said that for the authorities in the city, the handling of Smart City projects relating to the second smart city of Rourkela would be easier after having an experience of executing works in Bhubaneswar.
“Works for Smart City would be easier to implement in Rourkela as the state will have better experience on implementing the Smart City projects in the state capital,” he added.
As per the list of projects in the dual smart cities of Orissa, in Bhubaneswar some of the projects include opening of open garden gyms, e-rickshaw project, cycle highway project, urban knowledge centre among others while in Rourkela some of the projects include citizen friendly parks, Brahmani River front development, free Wi-Fi hotspots, among others.
