Bhubaneswar: The seventh Asia Steel International Conference will be held here from February 6 to 9.
The conference will be hosted by Tata Steel in association with the Indian Institute of Metals.
Around 70 keynote speakers from China, Korea, Japan, the Netherlands, the UK, the US, Germany, Belgium, Canada, are expected to address the conference, an official release said.
The last conference, which was conducted every three years, was held in Yokohama, Japan in 2015.
The event will focus on different challenges faced by the steel industry. It will discuss specific consumption of raw materials, especially coke and iron ore, how to use low-grade raw materials, along with decreasing the energy consumption in various iron making and steelmaking operations and, thereby, reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
The conference will be a platform for experts from across the globe to discuss new surface treatments, innovative and green technologies for iron making and promoting automation and digitisation in steel industry, the release added.
The global steel production last year has been pegged at 1,622 million tonnes and is expected to grow by two per cent to 1,648 MnT in 2018. The Indian growth rate is pegged between 7.2 per cent and 7.8 per cent in FY19 driven largely by the recent measures taken by the government in the construction and capital goods sectors along with revival strategies undertaken in the automotive and consumer durables sectors.
