Bhubaneswar: The second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic is yet to end in Odisha, the Director of Health Services, Bijay Mohapatra said Monday. He informed that among the new cases reported in Odisha, 40 per cent are from the state capital alone.
It should be stated here that even the Indian government has admitted that the second wave is still prevailing in some parts of the country. Mohapatra however said that there is also a positive sign in the present scenario. There is no upward trend in the number of new cases, he pointed out

“We have been continuously harping for the last three months that there is a need to avoid congregations during the festive season. The Health department has been taking steps to contain any probable spread of the virus. We once again appeal people not to go out or avoid travel unless absolutely necessary. That is one of the reasons we have increased the timings of the night curfew,” Mohapatra stated.
The rate of daily caseload in the state capital however, is a matter of concern. The Covid-19 graph of new infections in this city has not shown any decline for the past few days. So it is necessary for people to follow Covid-19 appropriate protocols to prevent further spread of the disease, Mohapatra added.
It should be stated here that Odisha reported 448 new Covid-19 positive cases Monday. One will be surprised to know that 208 of the new cases emerged from Khurda district alone. This just proves that Khurda district including the state capital has now become a virus hotspot.
