BJD moves EC over model code violation

Bhubaneswar: A delegation of ruling BJD Wednesday met Chief Electoral Officer Surendra Kumar and submitted a memorandum demanding action against BJP for violation of model code of conduct (MCC).
The BJD was complaining about a Facebook post shared by BJP activist Sadashiv Jena to tarnish the image of the party. The BJD alleged that the BJP activist has violated the code of conduct issued by the ECI by posting one video clip in his Facebook account pertaining to campaigning for the BJP in the ensuing Bijepur by-poll.
“As per rule, every campaigning material including video clips has to be approved by the competent electoral authorities. Therefore it clearly violates the Model Code of Conduct issued by ECI,” the letter stated. Therefore, the party demanded immediate action against Jena as per law for violating code of conduct and under cyber law.
According to sources, nominations of three candidates (two independent & one from Utkal Bharat) have been rejected after scrutiny. As many as 17 candidates had filed their nomination papers, 14 candidates are now left out in the fray unless and until they formally withdraw themselves from the electoral race.
