Brajarajnagar: Ruling BJD Monday nominated Alaka Mohanty, widow of late Kishore Mohanty, as its party candidate for upcoming bypoll to Brajarajnagar Assembly constituency seat in Jharsuguda district.
Bypoll to the Assembly seat was necessitated since December 30, 2021 following the sad demise of former MLA Kishore Mohanty.
It is pertinent to mention, with the political atmosphere in Brajarajnagar gathering momentum for the bypoll, senior BJP leader and former MLA Radharani Panda was named Sunday as its party candidate.
BJP’s central election committee (CEC) finalised the name of Panda, a notice issued in this regard by the party high command stated.
Congress Friday fielded former Speaker Kishore Patel from here.
As per Odisha SEC notification, polling will be held May 31. Last date for filing nominations is May 11. The papers submitted by different candidates will be scrutinised May 12 and the last date for withdrawal is May 17. Counting of votes has been scheduled for June 3.
