Bhubaneswar, August 17: The ruling Biju Janata Dal held its legislature party meeting at the Assembly Monday evening to discuss crucial bills that will be placed before the House during the monsoon session of the 15th legislative assembly that is set to kick-start Tuesday.
“We had discussions on crucial bills and key issues affecting public,” said BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who chaired the meeting.
Sources close to this development said the ruling party also discussed measures to tackle Opposition members in the House.
BJD leaders said their party is prepared to lock horns with the opposition BJP and Congress. Sources said the BJD will raise issues related to Central apathy and poor funding as well as Centre’s negligence towards Orissa in terms of granting special status to the state.
Reiterating his earlier view, BJD spokesperson Amar Satpathy said: “As I have said, we are ready to discuss all issues that will be raised by the Opposition on the floor of the House.”
The BJP also held a similar meeting of its legislature party members Monday to discuss its strategy for the monsoon session.
Leader of BJP legislature party Basant Panda said: “Brahma Paribartan fiasco will be the key issue that will be raised on the floor of the House.”
“Besides, the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, poor drinking water facility in western Orissa, impending drought and other key issues will also be raised,” Panda said.
Congress members who had met recently to chalk out their strategy may again meet Tuesday, party sources said.
“The Opposition should cooperate for smooth conduct of the Assembly proceedings, which will ensure proper discussion of relevant public matters on the floor,” Satpathy said.
