New Delhi: The Communist Party of India (CPI) Friday expressed its willingness to support the initiative of Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik to provide 33 per cent reservation to women in the state Assemblies and the Parliament.
A BJD delegation comprising Bolangir MP Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo and Jagatsinghpur MP Kulamani Samal met CPI national secretary D Raja here and sought his party’s support for passing of Women’s Reservation Bill in the Parliament. The BJD delegation also gave the letter from Odisha Chief Minister addressed to CPI.
According to sources, the CPI leader has shown positive approach towards the initiative.
Samal said Raja told us that he would meet us later to speak on the matter in details.
Earlier, Odisha Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Surya Narayan Patro and Dhenkanal MP Tathagata Satpathy had met Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal to seek her party’s support for the bill. The SAD also extended its support to the BJD’s initiative.
