Bhubaneswar: After ‘Aama Gaon, Aama Bikash’ campaign to reach out to rural masses, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is all set to launch ‘Aama Sahara, Aama Unnati’ campaign to garner people’s support in urban areas.
The BJD move is widely seen as a tactic to woo urban masses ahead of the 2018 urban polls.
“For urban areas we are launching a programme ‘‘Aama Sahara, Aama Unnati’’ with similar objectives (that of ‘Aama Gaon, Aama Bikash programme),” announced Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at a meeting of party MPs, MLAs, ministers and senior leaders here Friday.
The NAC ward committees and Municipalities will comprise 50 members and 100 members in case of Corporations, Patnaik said.
In his address the party supremo said, ‘‘We launched the “Aama Gaon, Aama Bikash” campaign to carry forward the pro-initiative of our Government to every village.
“People should know the good work done by our Government, the transformation that is happening in infrastructure, livelihood and social sectors,” he said, adding, “Through this we should effectively counter the misinformation campaign by the Opposition.”
Patnaik said he was happy to note that Extended Executive Committee meetings have been completed in almost all the districts. “In some districts, block level meetings have also been completed. We must complete all blocks and zonal meetings by July-end. Now, our focus should be on the GP level organisational work. Block observers will be in place in every block from the first week of August,” he announced while reviewing the ‘Aama Gaon, Aama Bikash’ campaign.
Patnaik said all top leaders, MPs and MLAs have important role in organising the GP level and ward level meetings. The most important aspect of this exercise is to form ward level committees with 15 to 21 members depending on the size of the ward. All the frontal wing organisations should be involved in the formation of such committees.
He stressed the importance of Ward Committees which are empowered with adequate information and given due importance while implementing development and social sector programmes. “Ward Committees are the soldiers of the party and I want them to be truly representative.”
He also instructed that district observers should send regular reports to the state committee. “Once ward committees are formed, I will be talking directly to many of them,” he said. PNN
