Bhubaneswar, Jan 17: In a bid to cripple what it dubs as the state government’s image-boosting claims on the Re 1 per kg rice scheme, the Opposition BJP launched a poster campaign on the issue here Sunday.
State BJP president Basant Panda kicked off the campaign by pasting the posters on walls along some streets at Satyanagar. The campaign aims at creating awareness among the public about the shares of the Centre and the state government in the cost of the cheap rice distribution scheme under National Food Security Act (NFSA).
“Under this scheme, Food Corporation of India (FCI) provides rice at Rs 30.38 per kg out, out of which Rs 27.38 is contributed by the Centre while the state government contributes onlyRs 2. But the BJD government claims that it is their scheme and thus seeks to gain cheap political mileage,” said Panda after launching the campaign. The Centre, he said, would bear a total cost of Rs 684 crore for implementation of the scheme in the state in 2015-16.
Panda said BJP would reach all villages in the state through the poster campaign with the help of its 40 lakh primary members to expose the state government and highlight the contribution of the Centre in the Rs 1 rice scheme. He demanded again that the state government completely abandon the flawed beneficiary lists under NFSA and prepare fresh lists to ensue not a single eligible beneficiary is left out.
