Bhubaneswar: A delegation of state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Thursday met director general of police (DGP) KB Singh here and demanded the immediate release of 13 party workers who have been arrested by police.
The 13 party workers were arrested February 9 for their alleged involvement in the assault on Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Pramod Mallick in Paradip.
“It is nothing but irony that 11 innocent persons were brought to the police lock-up February 9 on the pretext of one BJD legislator being manhandled. Not a single face from those arrested was traced from media clips or photographs of the untoward incident with the MLA,” said a BJP leader.
The delegation, which included party spokesperson Samir Mohanty, submitted a memorandum to the DGP demanding action against the ruling party MLAs-Mallick and Debasish Samantaray for vandalism at Tirtol police station and at the IOCL meeting venue in Paradip.
The BJP leaders urged Singh to conduct a thorough probe into the incidents and take appropriate action against the guilty. The delegation also demanded suspension of Jagatsinghpur SP, alleging dereliction of duty in maintaining law and order at the meeting venue.
The DGP assured the BJP leaders that action would be taken against the guilty. “We are investigating the allegations made by the BJP leaders and will take action against the guilty,” Singh said. PNN
