Bhubaneswar: In a bid to streamline operations and boost environmental sustainability, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a rational disposal process for its old and dilapidated vehicles.
A total of 28 vehicles, including TATA tippers, excavators, loaders, ambulances, and tractors, have been identified for disposal.
According to sources, the vehicles have either completed over 15 years since registration or covered more than 2,50,000 kilometres, making them non-roadworthy.
The BMC has selected them for scrapping in accordance with government norms.

The vehicles are being handed over to registered vehicle scrapping facilities in a phased manner, following due consultation with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Bhubaneswar.
This initiative is expected to promote recycling of materials, reduce waste, and recover valuable space occupied by these vehicles.
BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana said that the corporation aims to recover materials from abandoned vehicles in a professional manner, enabling the efficient use of valuable land.
“While BMC is managing material recovery facilities (MRFs) for daily waste from the City, we have thought of the abandoned vehicles in the same manner, and the materials attached to such vehicles need to be recovered in a professional manner by the registered agency,” he added.
This move is seen as a significant step towards enhancing operational efficiency and promoting environmental sustainability in the City.
