Berhampur, Feb 12: K Madhavi, mayor of Berhampur Municipal Corporation, Thursday refuted the land grab allegations against her. Madhavi filed a reply in a local court in this regard. Advocates Kishore Bisoyi and S Ramkumar submitted a six-page response on behalf of the mayor.
This was in response to a complaint filed by a former mayor against Madhavi. The complaint alleged the mayor grabbed government land by manipulating government rules. The court had admitted the petition and asked Madhavi to file a reply by Thursday.
The reply said the issues raised in the petition are far from truth and are politically motivated. She said the former mayor filed the petition in a fit of rage after he was ousted from the Biju Janata Dal(BJD). Besides, the petition violates court procedure, the reply added.
On the demand to invalidate the mayor’s election, the reply said, according to election rules a petition over the issue should have been filed within 15 days of declaration of election date which has not been followed.
Clarifying on her two names, Madhavi said Sailaxmi is her maiden name while K Madhavi is the name which has been used in government records.
Similarly, on the confusion over two names of her husband, she explained that she had married K Laxman in 1987 whom she divorced. She went in for a second marriage with CH Venkatraman in 1989. The case has been posted for hearing March 12.
