Bhubaneswar, Jan 10: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to do away with the idea of painting roads in different colours for its on-street parking projects. Instead, the civic body would install sign boards between Master Canteen and Rajmahal Square to help people identify the space for parking their vehicles.
The decision came after the civic body learnt that tonnes of colours would be needed to paint the roads to demarcate parking spaces for two, three and four wheelers on the stretch. As it requires huge funds to procure paint, the BMC has chosen sign boards to reduce the expenses.
A few months ago, twin city police commissioner Rajendra Prasad Sharma and municipal commissioner Krishan Kumar had made an inspection of footpath to take a final call on the proposed on-street parking lots between Vani Vihar and Shishu Bhawan. Later, Master Canteen-Rajmahal Square stretch was chosen as a pilot project where parking lots are being set up in lines with London.
According to the plan, signboards for bikes, auto-rickshaws and cars would be installed between Master Canteen and Rajmahal Squares so that people coming for shopping and other purposes can park their vehicles at the designated place.
BMC deputy secretary Shubhranshu Mishra said, “We will install sign boards at our own cost to alienate areas for two, three and four wheelers on the said stretch.”
