Bhubaneswar: Marking Local Self-Government Day, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken another step towards strengthening the city’s civic infrastructure with the establishment of an eco-friendly LPG-based Small Animal Crematorium at Palasuni.
The newly developed facility aims to provide a scientific, hygienic and environmentally sustainable method for disposing of deceased small animals. Equipped with modern cremation infrastructure, the crematorium will ensure a dignified and safe disposal process while helping reduce potential public health risks and environmental pollution.
According to the BMC, the dedicated facility will further strengthen the city’s animal welfare, sanitation and waste management services by providing an organised and environmentally responsible mechanism for handling deceased small animals.
The project has been developed at a total cost of Rs 1,19,43,592. Of the total expenditure, Rs 77,11,792 has been spent on construction, while Rs 42,31,800 has been allocated for machinery and equipment.
The LPG-based crematorium is part of the civic body’s efforts to modernise urban sanitation infrastructure and incorporate sustainable practices into civic service delivery. The facility is expected to provide an organised alternative to conventional methods of disposing of animal carcasses, thereby contributing to improved cleanliness and hygiene in the city.
The initiative also reflects BMC’s broader focus on strengthening animal welfare and sanitation services in Bhubaneswar. By introducing dedicated infrastructure for the disposal of deceased small animals, the civic body aims to address an often-overlooked aspect of urban waste management in a more systematic and environmentally responsible manner.
On the occasion of Local Self-Government Day, the project underscores BMC’s commitment to improving public services, enhancing urban hygiene and adopting sustainable solutions for civic management.
The establishment of the facility at Palasuni is expected to contribute to a cleaner and healthier urban environment while supporting the city’s efforts to build more modern and sustainable civic infrastructure.
