Bhubaneswar: The civic authority here has decided to reopen its 11 Aahar centres and the kitchen near Nakhara on the city outskirts that were forced to shut down post the severe cyclonic storm, Fani.
The decision was made following different rounds of meetings at Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). Assessing the extent of the damages made to the central kitchen at Bamphakuda near Nakhara and the other Aahar centres, the BMC has decided to reopen them anyway.
The State Government and Housing and Urban Development Department have also extended their help for reopening of the centres and the central kitchen
facility.
Meanwhile, the civic body has decided to open 200 “jal seva sibir” or temporary water kiosks across the city. BMC will also provide an assistance of Rs 5,000 to all agencies that were affected by Fani.
“However, this special assistance of Rs 5,000 is only for the damage caused by severe cyclonic storm Fani and it is not a regular measure,” clarified a BMC official.
Interestingly Bhubaneswar Auto Mahasangh, women self-help groups (SHGs), Scouts and Guides, Satyasai Sangathan and different civil society organisations of the city have promised to open and run the “jal seva sibirs” in the city. Odisha State Bharat Scouts and Guides will take part in “jal seva sibir” for the first time in the city.
