Angul: Search and rescue operations were ongoing to rescue two persons who went missing after a boat capsized in Lower Samal Barrage in Angul district Thursday . The incident took place at around 2:30pm when five employees of a contract firm of Mahanadi Vihar in Cuttack were conducting barrage survey work.
The boat capsized after sudden release of water from the Barrage and the employees went missing.
Later, three of the victims managed to swim to safety, while two others, identified as operator Ashok Kumar hailing from Parjang and engineer of the firm Ramesh Satapathy from Berhampur, were missing.
Officials from Samal police station and ODRAF team rushed to the spot and swung into action to rescue the victims. The Barrage gates have been closed and search operation intensified, a report said.
