Anandapur/Oupada: Tension gripped Anandapur College in Keonjhar district late Tuesday night after miscreants exploded a bomb to disturb students’ union elections. Parts of a window were burnt in the explosion while the police recovered two unexploded bombs from the campus.
Panic gripped the area after the incident and two platoons of police were deployed on the campus. Meanwhile, some candidates managed to file their nomination papers.
SDPO Maheswar Sethi and magistrate Tapan Kumar Nayak were on the campus to take stock of the situation.
Surprisingly, the principal of the college said he was unaware of any bomb explosion. He, moreover, said that efforts were made to ensure peaceful filing of nomination papers by candidates contesting the students’ union polls.
In another development, the students’ union polls were cancelled in Shalapada Women’s College. A majority of the students had submitted a memorandum to the principal demanding cancellation of the polls.
Students’ union polls were also cancelled in Kushaleswar Anchalika Mahavidyalay in Rekutia of Ghasipura block. Police were deployed in these two colleges too, said the SDPO.
Reports from Oupada said the authorities of Oupada Plus-III Degree College in Balasore cancelled the polls in view of possible student unrest. Some students opposed the decision.
