Khandapada: A teenage girl was allegedly spiked in her drinks and later raped by a minor friend of hers during a birthday party after she lost her consciousness, police said Saturday.
The matter came to the fore after the victim saw a video clip of the intimate moment circulating in social media platforms and approached Gobindpur police in Nayagarh district for help. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and recorded her statements.
A manhunt was launched to nab the minor and steps were taken to delete the videos from social media sites.
According to the police, the accused called the girl and her two friends for a birthday party at Jagamara area under Khandagiri police limits in the Capital city November 20. After the celebration at a rented house, the accused offered the girl a spiked drink. Unaware of his evil intentions, the girl drank it and soon fell unconscious.
While the girl cannot recall what happened to her after she fell unconscious, the video clearly shows the minor undressing the girl and later raping her while he shot the entire episode in his mobile phone.
Still unaware, the girl then returned home the next morning only to find the video clip circulating in WhatsApp groups. She came to know after a friend of hers forwarded her the video. In her complaint, the girl accused her two friends of being hand in glove with the accused.
Shocked, the girl kept quiet till Friday and later narrated the ordeal to her friends and subsequently lodged a complaint. Sensing that the girl would approach police, the accused fled the area, police said, adding that a special team has been formed and efforts are on to nab him.
“They had planned and called me to celebrate the birthday. They were present in the house while I was raped,” the victim said.
The girl, who is a college student, was sent for medical examination and a further probe is on. We will arrest the accused soon, investigating officer Tapan Kumar Rout said.
