BHUBANESWAR: A special handloom expo organised by Boyanika was inaugurated by Chief Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathy at Exhibition Ground here Tuesday.
Commisioner-cum-secretary Subha Sharma, President, Boyanika Sesha Kumar Meher, and managing director Jyoti Prakash Dash were present on the occasion.
The expo is sponsored by Development Commisioner for Handlooms, Ministry of Textiles, Govt Of India and organised by Boyanika Handloom,Textiles and Handicrafts Department, Govt of Odisha.
The exhibition showcased 33 stalls exhibiting various hand-woven merchandise including saree, dress material and Chunri among others.
Interacting with Orissa Post, Aarta Ranjan Mahapatra, marketing manager, Boynika, said, “Every year, we start selling during Ganesh Puja. Hence, to continue with our tradition of giving people a festive shopping experience, we have a massive range of collection of Sonpuri, Bomkai, Habaspuri, Kotpad, Tassar, Dongria and Khandua sarees.”
Meher said, “It’s a special handloom expo and the main objective is to promote handloom products and aid weavers who are working at grassroots to provide us with diverse handloom clothes. We also expect more handloom lovers to come in large numbers.”
Simanti Bose, a regular to the expo said, “It’s a truly engaging handloom expo where I can buy fabrics of my choice and even gift some to my sis-in-law who lives abroad.”
