Bhubaneswar, August 21: A brawl between members of the Opposition Congress and ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Friday over the display of banners in the controversy surrounding a Vigilance case against former DGP Prakash Mishra stalled the conduct of Assembly proceedings forcing Speakers Niranjan Pujari to adjourn the day’s proceedings.
As soon as the House assembled at 10.30 am for Question Hour, Congress and BJP members, who had participated in Thursday’s session, reiterated their demand for a discussion on the Prakash Mishra Vigilance case.
However, treasury bench members rushed towards the Opposition benches and caught hold of Congress chief whip Taraprasad Bahinipati and other Congress members who were protesting from their seats and tried to prevent them from displaying banners and said the matter relating to Prakash Mishra could not be discussed as per the Speaker’s decision.
Speaker Niranjan Pujari later adjourned the House till 3 pm.
The ruckus continued after the House assembled at 5:20 pm. Opposition members continued with their noisy protests even as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik was putting forth his statement on the Nuapada incident. As the din continued after the CM’s speech, the Speaker adjourned the House till Saturday morning.
