Balasore: Two persons have been arrested from Balasore district after excise officials seized brown sugar weighing 38 grams worth Rs 5 lakh from their possession, police said Tuesday.
The accused have been identified as Faiz Mohammed and Ashiq Khan, both residents of Rathipur village in Khurdha district.
According to an officer in Balasore police station, acting on a tip-off about the contraband being carried by the duo on a motorcycle, cops conducted a surprise check and intercepted a vehicle on NH-16 at Markona area under Simulia police limits in Balasore district late Monday night.
The brown sugar was later seized from their possession. Both the accused have been forwarded to court, the police official said, adding that the two were involved in drug peddling in the past.
