Bhubaneswar, Nov 30: Bhubaneswar Sports Hostel (BSH) emerged champions of the Gangpur Gold Cup hockey tournament edging past SAIL Hockey Academy(SHA) 1-0 at the Biju Patnaik Stadium in Rourkela, Sunday.
It was a keenly contested match with Kunjan Tappo of BSH scoring the all important goal as early as in the eighth minute. SHA players tried their best till the last moment, but could not find the equalizer.
East Coast Railway (ECoR) spanked Panposh Sports Hostel 4-1 to finish third. Subash Tappo, Joseph Tappo, Minil Tappo and Jones Kerketa of the winning team netted a goal each in the 2nd, 6th,7th and 22nd minutes respectively. Manoj Kindo of Panposh got the consolation goal in the 54th minutes to reduce the winning margin only.
The champion team bagged a cash award of Rs 1 lakh, while the runners-up took home Rs 50,000.
Similarly, the third and fourth finishers received cash award of Rs 25,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Ashok Lakra of the SAIL bagged the player of the tournament award.
Amulya Behera, Rajan Ekka, Bernard Lakra, Pitter Soren, Gregory Lakra and Christopher Lakra officiated the matches.
