Bhubaneswar, May 4: Around 50 students from various parts of the state were felicitated with citations and trophies during the 8th annual function of Avirnna Chitrakala held at Bhanjakala Mandap in the city, Monday, for their outstanding performance in the state-level dance, art and music competition held April 26.
The students brought the annual day function alive by displaying their talent in dance and music. The children gave an array of performances, including Odissi dance, Hindustani vocals, modern dance and guitar presentation.
“The students practised hard to bring about a classical atmosphere at the annual function,” said Maansir, a dance teacher at the institute.
“Kindergarten children also mesmerized the audience by dancing to the tune of modern songs. Besides, more than 60 students between the ages of six and 16 also kept the audience engrossed by their activities,” said Maansir.
The parents of the Avrinna Chitrakala students who performed on stage received a standing ovation from the audience.
“Our institute motivates budding artistes to explore their hidden talent,” said Ghanashyam Pradhan, the director of Avirnna Chitrakala.
“More than 200 students had participated in the competition. However, only 50 of them were selected for their exceptional talent. We decided to felicitate them during our annual function. I believe these awards will give them an incentive to hone their talent,” said Pradhan.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, who was the chief guest, gave away the prizes to the winners and urged everyone to keep working hard with sincere endeavour.
Aayesha Jena, who bagged the first position in organ playing, thanked her teachers and parents for her achievement. “The organ has been my closest friend for the last three years. I dedicated myself to learning this instrument. Now I can see the result of my hard work, thanks to my teachers and my parents,” said Jena.
Those who attended the event included renowned music director Laxmikant Palita and former corporator Subhransu Sekhar Patnaik.
