Rourkela: Police Thursday arrested a conductor of a passenger bus here on the charge of misbehaving with an NIT girl student who was travelling from Kendrapara to Rourkela Wednesday night.
A case was registered and the accused Pankaj Munna of Bargarh was produced in s court, officials of Mahila police station said. Further investigation into the incident was on, they added.
The incident took place when the girl from Aul in Kendrapara district was coming to Rourkela to attend her classes. In the middle of the night, the conductor suddenly tried to get physical with her and misbehaved with her, the student said in her complaint lodged with Mahila Police.
Meanwhile, locals demanded action against bus owners for not checking such nuisances which have become a regular affair in night buses especially those plying from various parts of the state to the Steel City.
While people of Rourkela prefer buses to trains to travel at night, the unruly behavior of bus conductors is a matter of concern, some passengers said.
For instance, police had arrested a bus conductor three months ago for misbehaving with a girl student and produced him in a court. Travelling in night buses has become risky these days especially for women travellers, locals said. PNN
