Chhatrapur: Members of Chhatrapur Biju Yuva Bahini (BYV) have recently been lauded for their noble deed of performing last rites of an ostracised elderly man.
Sources said, Veer Shashmal of Gangapur Village of Potlampur gram panchayat under Chhatrapur block in Ganjam district had been ostracised by the villagers over some reasons for the past seven years.
He had been living a secluded life until recently he breathed his last. He experienced extreme inhumanity; so much so that even after his death none of the villagers offered a visit and his body had been lying unattended.
The Chhatrapur Biju Yuva Vahini came to know about the inhumane treatment and they took up on the charge to mete out the sorry state of affairs. They came to the village and shouldered the body to the cremation ground and performed the last rites.
Senior citizens heaped praises on the members of the BYV for their being good Samaritan.
