Satyabrat Rath, chairman of Fame said, “The first day was quite good and overwhelming for us. It was beyond our expectations. But I hope in the coming days we will witness more participation in the camp. Nowadays, kids are often confined within boundaries of modern technologies. Our aim is to enrich their childhood by infusing liveliness in their everyday life. I hope kids will love the upcoming days.”

On the occasion, founder of Shree Infotainment, Swatirekha Parikshya said, “This is an initiative to provide today’s kids a platform to explore outdoor activities and we are trying our best to provide them an essence of true childhood through outdoor activities in an open air ambience.”

A plethora of events was organised at the camp on its opening day. The students were first grouped according to their age and parents were counselled on the events in the days ahead. A lot of tiny tots started their first day by performing on several hit songs on stage with assistance from volunteers.

“I am glad that I have come to this summer camp. I have heard many a times about summer camps. This is the first time I have come to such a camp to enrol my child, who studies in Class V in Kendriya Vidyalaya, Khareval Nagar. I have seen so many activities listed for the camp. I want to get my son trained in dance so that he can de-stress himself during summer breaks through it and enjoy the holidays better,” said Rajini Behera, mother of one of the participants.

The organisers of the summer camp have been offering myriad categories of events. In this camp, they will impart training in dance, sand art, art and craft, radio jockeying, abacus, mono acting, video jockeying, photography, etc. A special programme on personality development has also been planned to groom the participants.

Many parents Wednesday thronged the venue to get their children acquainted with the different training programmes. “The wide range of programmes is really lucrative. I have got my 12-year-old daughter enrolled in art and craft sessions, which will make sure she learns some lessons on drawing as she enjoys the summer breaks better,” said Sangita Pattnaik, whose daughter studies in Xavier’s International School.

Summer Camps in city schools
This large-scale private initiative apart, the well known schools of the city have also been organising summer camps to help their students spend the vacation better. Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School, DAV Public School, Unit-VII, Doon International School and Sri Ram International Preschool bubbled with activities, which had an even share of learning and fun, directed at honing the artistic skills of the children taking part in the summer camps. These schools offer endless options, ranging from, sessions on drawing, dance, song, playing musical instruments, to sports, computer animation, aerobics, special coaching in math, spoken English etc for the participating kids.

“This camp helps students to learn while having fun. Students remain engaged in their studies throughout the year, but this is the time when they can enjoy their hobbies. We offer indoor and outdoor games. They can participate according to their choice,” said Sandhya Jena, vice-principal BJEM School. Around 200 kids took part in the summer camp organised by BJEM.

Students are also excited about these camps as these have been a great learning experience for them. “I enjoyed a lot while participating in various activities here. Teachers taught us in a friendly way. Here I have learnt how to work in groups, how to interact with seniors and how to take decisions,” said Smruti Sudha Das, a Class VIII student of the DAV Public School.
