Campaign spreads to Bangalore

Bhadrak: The campaign for a government medical college and hospital in Bhadrak intensified as supporters ran a signature campaign in Bangalore and Bhadrak Sunday.

The campaign was organised by the Bhadrak Medical College Sangrami Sena, an outfit, espousing the cause of a medical college here. Scores of people from the district living in Bangalore got together at Agra Jagannath Temple and started the campaign.  The supporters have decided to observe Bhadrak bandh over this demand October 29.

A delegation of the outfit met Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan and submitted a memorandum to him on the need for a government medical college and hospital in Bhadrak.

It may be noted that after establishment of the FM Medical College and Hospital in Balasore, a movement was initiated in Bhadrak September 11 for a similar institution here.

Over 500 intellectuals, students and elderly citizens took up this cause and started a signature campaign at Bant.

The activists observed that there is a need for a medical college and hospital for Bhadrak while the state government has ‘neglected’ the district on all sectors including healthcare. They hoped that the drive will build up pressure on the state government to set up a medical college as was done in other districts.
