Paradip: The strike by retrenched labourers of Cargill India refinery plant has entered its second day Thursday.
“Yesterday we had a discussion with the officials of the district administration but it failed to yield any result. So, we have decided to continue our strike till our demand for reinstatement is met,” an agitator said.
Around 152 retrenched workers of Cargill India and their family members have been sitting on a dharna in front of the company’s gate demanding jobs at Adani Wilmar Limited which had acquired Cargill India.
A total of five platoons of police force have been deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward incidents.
The workers had also staged a similar protest before the plant in April this year after the company was shut down due to losses and later gheraoed the Paradip police station.
Apprehending tension, the district administration had also imposed restrictions under Section 144 near the plant premises.
However, the agitators had withdrawn their protest after getting assurance from police and company officials to consider their demands.
