Angul: Cattle trafficking have come to the fore again as a truck carrying the animals overturned near Antulia at Athmallik locality of Angul district Sunday morning. Due to the accident, at least 14 bovines were killed and five others were rescued by the locals.
The accident happened when the driver lost its control over the vehicle which skidded off the road and turned turtle. The driver fled the spot after the incident.
Local people alleged that trafficking of cattle has become a routine with tacit support of the local police. They also claimed that such illegal activities have been going on for years.
On being informed, local police reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter. They also assured the locals that trafficking of cattle will be curbed.
However, the locals warned that they will intensify the agitation in entire Athmallik area if the police fail to bring to light the culprits behind cattle smuggling.
