Bhubaneswar, May 23: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an advisory to all its affiliated schools to beware of pirated textbooks.
The advisory, which has been issued as part of efforts to ensure quality scholastic performance, has come just before the start of the 2015-16 academic session.
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is the major publisher of many books used by students of CBSE affiliated schools across the state.
Some local publishers are reportedly marketing pirated copies of the books to the CBSE schools.
“Piracy of textbooks is illegal and leads to financial loss to NCERT and also precludes availability of quality textbooks to students. The pirated textbooks are printed on cheaper quality paper and may not have the authentic content. This can negatively affect the scholastic performance of students,” said the advisory issued by CBSE.
NCERT has published on its website a list of names of wholesale agents found guilty of selling pirated textbooks. It has also inserted the NCERT watermark to ensure the authenticity of the textbooks.
The CBSE has asked all teachers and students to ensure that they use genuine NCERT textbooks which carry the watermark of the NCERT logo on several pages.
The heads of the schools have also been told to ask students and their parents whether they doubt the quality of the textbooks published by NCERT and to inform the NCERT authorities.
Booksellers have been advised not to charge more than the printed price on the books.
