Bhubaneswar, June 22: The three-day ‘Dhara Shree Radha Mahotsav’ organised by Odisha Art Culture at Rabindra Mandap concluded Wednesday with some splendid performances.
Compositions based on ‘Dhara Shree Radha’, an epic in Oriya written by poet Mangala Prasad Pradhan were presented during the event.
Munmun Chakrabarty and Guru Minati Pradhan presented a duet to the song ‘Ujagarare Chahin Radhika Abhisarika’ at the event. “The dance ballet depicts Radha’s wait through the night for her beloved Krishna and her rising anxiety. But Krishna appears before her in the morning and asks for her forgiveness. But Radha chides him. The scene was depicted through the dance ballet,” Minati said.
Manoranjan Pradhan choreographed the composition for which music was composed by Guru Bijay Kumar Jena.
Another duet was performed by Preetipriya Behera and Harekrushna Dhala. Titled ‘Nrutya Naivedya’ set to Raagmalika raag and Malika taal, the ballet, too, dealt with the theme of love between Radha and Krishna. Prabhat Kumar Swain handled the choreography and music was composed by Sachikanta Nayak.
A solo performance by Kolkata based Shatabdhi Mallik mesmerized the audience. He presented a dance-drama set to song ‘Goigo Koti Madan Sundar’.
Two other group dances were also in the store for the evening. Nupur dance group staged their performances describing the significance of rain through their dance while artistes from Utkal Culture Academy presented another composition of Mangala Prasad Pradhan under the direction of Guru Sanatana Nayak.
The cultural body also honored the writer Sarat Kumar Das with ‘Dhara Shree Radha Sahitya Samman’ for 2016 on the occasion.
“This cultural extravaganza displayed the richness of our art and culture. Imagination and writings of poet in his ‘Dhara Shree Radha’ is excellent. The participants presented an arrays of Odissi ballets which express their talent in the dance format,” Dilip Srichandan, chairman of Mahotsav committee, said.
