Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: Members of the central ‘site selection committee’ will arrive here Wednesday to finalise a permanent location for the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the state.
The team led by Amarjit Sinha, secretary to higher education under the Union HRD ministry will visit the two places identified by state government for the purpose, namely Gothapatna and Arugul. The panel will select a place which meets all the criteria fixed by the HRD ministry in this respect.
IDCO officials are likely to give a presentation to the committee on the land status and other criteria which these lands meet. Sources said the state government favoured Gothapatna for the IIM in view of the presence of industrial units nearer to it. IIIT, the Birla Institute of Management and Technology, the International Management Institute, Nalco’s I&D Centre and STPI are located there. The area is 15km away from the city airport and connected by a 100ft road laid by BDA. The site selection team would include a senior official from IIM Kolkata and secretary to the state technical education and training department besides the Khurda Collector.
The committee was originally scheduled to visit the state December 23.
