Bhanjanagar: The Union government has approved Rs 33.11 crore for building a new campus of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Bhanjanagar under Ganjam district.
The money has been allotted to the Central Public Works department to develop the new premises. Tender will reportedly be finalised by the end of March this year and the construction will commence soon.
Parents and guardians have expressed gratitude to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhanjanagar MLA Pradyumna Kumar Nayak, Bhanjanagar Sub Collector-cum-president of the school Uma Shankar Behera and principal of the school Pradeep Kamanu.
Notably, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bhanjanagar started running from an unused hostel building of the Upendra Bhanja College in 2010 with the efforts of the then MLA Bikram Keshari Arukha after approaching the UPA government at the Centre. Later, demand grew to shift the school to its own premises. Various plots were identified by the state government for construction of the school building but they were rejected by the central team describing them unsuitable.

However, a new plot near Bhanjanagar Regional Transport Office was given a final nod by the Central team to set up the new premises. The plot was handed over to the central school authorities after completing the land record formalities about three years ago.
The project is expected to be completed before the commencement of new academic year in 2028 with an aim to accommodate eleventh and twelfth classes as well.
