Bhubaneswar: The Union government Friday approved Rs 463crore for state annual action plan (SAAP) of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme for 2015-16 fiscal.
The apex committee of the AMRUT scheme, convened in New Delhi, Friday approved Rs 463crore including Rs 7crore towards administrative expenses.
Of the Rs 456crore, the Centre would provide Rs 228crore while the state would bear the remaining amount for execution of the scheme in the current fiscal, official sources said.
“The Centre will release the first instalment of around Rs 91crore within 15 days and the remaining amount will be released in two other phases after submitting the utilisation certificates,” mission director Sisir Ratho said.
As per the scheme, priority has been accorded to five sectors – water supply, sewerage, drainage, urban transport and park.
“This year, more emphasis has been given to water supply projects, followed by sewerage and development parks,” Ratho said.
Last month, the state government had organised a consultative meeting to prioritise the projects under the mission, with the MPs, MLAs, mayors, chairpersons and officials of nine selected civic bodies, last Thursday.
The scheme will be implemented in nine cities having more than one lakh population each. The cities are; Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Puri, Balasore, Bhadrak and Baripada.
