Balasore, Jan 23: Intelligence Bureau sleuths have arrested a youth Wednesday inside the prohibited area of Chandipur in Balasore.
The youth, who has admitted to having links with Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence, was arrested on the charges of treason and was produced in a court, north range DIG Asit Kumar Panigrahi told a press conference Friday.
The Intelligence Bureau sleuths have seized a camera, a SIM card, two cell phones, a computer hard disk, a bank passbook and a map from him.
The arrest comes in the backdrop of reports of a possible terror strike in four states including Orissa.
The youth, identified as Iswar Behera of Kalama village under Baisinga police limits of Mayurbhanj district, had been passing defence-related information to ISI for the last 10 months, Panigrahi said.
In the last three-four days, Behera made calls to an ISI agent more than 10 times, the DIG said. The youth had been working inside Chandipur Integrated Test Range (ITR) as a contractual photographer for the last eight years, he said.
The youth had gone to Kolkata on the pretext of repairing his camera and shared defence secrets with the ISI agent, the DIG said.
Panigrahi said the youth has been providing secret information about Prithvi, Agni, Pinaka and other missiles, including photographs and videos, to an ISI agent.
