Bhubaneswar: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Thursday filed a preliminary chargesheet in the chit fund scam against three companies belonging to Rose Valley Group.
The three companies – Rose Valley Real Estate Construction Pvt Ltd, Rose Valley Hotel and Entertainment Pvt Ltd, and Rose Valley Real Estate and Land Bank India Ltd – are facing charges of duping investors of Rs 17,000 crore as part of the scam.
CBI has registered a case under Section 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 409 (criminal breach of trust) of IPC and Section 4 and 6 of Prize Chits & Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act against the three companies.
The chargesheet, filed by CBI investigation officer Brateen Ghosal and senior public prosecutor for CBI, KC Mishra, runs over 86 pages. According to Mishra, 131 witnesses have been cited in the chargesheet in which 2,052 documents have been attached as evidence of the three companies’ alleged criminal wrongdoing.
The preliminary chargesheet will allow the premier investigating agency to keep the case open and continue its investigation. Earlier, CBI arrested Rose Valley Group managing director Shibmoy Dutta and one of the directors, Ashok Kumar Saha.
Another director, Ramlal Goswami, is still absconding. Rose Valley Group chairman Goutam Kundu was arrested by Enforcement Directorate a while ago in a different case.
CBI will seek the remand of Kundu January 11 in connection with these chit fund cases, said Mishra. The agency had registered cases against 44 companies in the chit fund scam.
