Cuttack: Chauliganj police Thursday filed an 1,120-page chargesheet in connection with the abduction and murder of Manoj Mallick alias Dipu, a friend-turned-foe of the Dhalasamanta brothers, in the court of Cuttack Sadar sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) here.
Altogether 14 persons, including the Dhalasamanta siblings, have been named as accused in the murder case and charged under Sections 364, 302, 120 (B), 201 and 34 of IPC and Sections 25(1-B)(A)/25(1-AA) of the Arms Act.
Police have so far arrested 10 accused — Sushant Kumar Dhalasamanta, Sushil Kumar Dhalasamanta, Debasis Kar, Nirmal Rout, Shuvendu Das alias Pinta, Bholanath Bhagat, Arif Khan, Sanjay Kumar Sahu, Debasish Sahu alias Gudu and Bharat Behera alias Litua. The four other accused — Chandrakanta Sahu alias Bapi, Devdutta Das alias Lipuna, Pradip Sahu alias Dilu and Sanjay Kumar Behera — are still on the run, said the chargesheet.
Sources said police have recorded the statements of 100 witnesses and carried out a DNA test on Dipu’s skeletal remains to prepare the chargesheet. The Dhalasamanta siblings had planned to eliminate Dipu and Om Prakash Swain alias Om when the latter duo raised a separate gang, claims the chargesheet. The Dhalasamanta brothers and their associates had abducted Dipu and Om from their houses November 12, 2013 and taken them to a farmhouse at Khuntakata near Athagarh.
Dipu and Om were bludgeoned to death by the Dhalasamanta brothers and their aides. The criminal siblings and their henchmen then carried the bodies of Dipu and Om to neighbouring Jharkhand in a four-wheeler. They burnt the bodies near a culvert in Badajamada area under Gua police limits of West Singhbhum district, mentions the chargesheet.
On being informed, Gua police had seized the half-burnt bodies of Dipu and Om November 18, 2013 and conducted post-mortem after registering a case. The bodies were later buried in the locality, claimed the chargesheet.
Chauliaganj police had solved the abduction and murder of Dipu and Om after interrogating the Dhalasamanta siblings and their trusted aide, Litua. A special team of the commissionerate police had collected the skeletal remains of Dipu and Om from Jharkhand and conducted a DNA test on them. Police had also seized the vehicle in which the bodies were allegedly transported to Jharkhand, said the chargesheet.
Commissionerate police sources, meanwhile, said Chauliaganj police will file a chargesheet in connection with the abduction and murder of Om a week later.
