Cuttack: The Chief Justice of Orissa High Court, Justice Dhirendra Hiralal Waghela, has been transferred to Bombay High Court as its Chief Justice, according to a gazette notification received from Rashtrapati Bhawan by the high court here Wednesday.
Justice Waghela was the Chief Justice of Karnataka high court from March 7, 2013, till he was transferred to Orissa High Court as chief justice in June.
Born in August 1954 at Rajkot in Gujarat, Waghela went to the Swami Narayan Gurukul and municipality schools and completed his graduation from PD Malaviya Commerce College in 1972. He acquired his LLB degree from AMP Law College at Rajkot in 1975 and got a LLM degree from Saurashtra University in 1977.
Waghela began his legal practice in his home town in 1975. Later, he moved to Ahmedabad in 1990 and shot to fame by handling various civil, criminal, constitutional and labour cases. He was elevated to the bench of Gujarat High Court as an additional judge in September 1999 and sworn in as a permanent judge June 18, 2001. Justice Waghela was the 28th chief justice of Orissa High Court. He is schedules to retire in August.
