Bhubaneswar, April 9: Chief Secretary GC Pati will depose before the Supreme Court Friday in connection with the MMS video case now being probed by the CBI.
Irked over the “non-response” of the state government in the case — relating to posting of a rape video on WhatsApp — the Supreme Court had March 20 directed the chief secretary to be present in court April 10.
Pati has left for New Delhi and would depose before the court Friday, sources said. Notably, a social justice bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and UU Lalit, which had taken suo motu cognizance of posting of several rape videos, one of which from Orissa, had issued notices February 27 to the Centre, CBI and others including the state governments of Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana. Following this, the apex court had March 13 imposed a fine of `50,000 on Orissa after no lawyer appeared on its behalf.
“Something is wrong with Orissa,” the bench said when it again found no lawyer on behalf of the state.
The Orissa rape case video depicted an incident in VSS Nagar, Bhubaneswar, and the CBI has, so far, arrested two persons including the main accused, builder Kalia, in the connection with the case.
