City bus travel going to be breeze from Nov 6

Bhubaneswar: Commuters in the Capital city will soon have a hassle-free travel experience as they would find it handy to book tickets, track the real-time location of city buses and won’t have to wait for longer period at bus stops as a mobile app has been developed for the purposes.
These facilities are all set to be rolled out on the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), the special purpose vehicle for the pan-city public transport administration, once its buses hit the roads, likely from November 6, a day before the Diwali festival, a media release from the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) said Friday.
“The bus service will use a mobile app through which citizens can book their tickets and also get to know the locations of the vehicle and minimise their waiting time at their nearby bus queue shelters or bus stops,” the release said.
The Housing and Urban Development and Transport departments are jointly working out modalities to make the city bus service a memorable and unique affair for all types of commuters across the city. The officials concerned claim that the new city buses, besides having technology driven features, will have intelligently designed urban features such as spacious cabin space. Designed as per the Urban Bus Design Code, the buses will be comfortable for use of urban public and far better than the private-owned public transport buses. “The mobile app for the city bus service will be both in Android and iOS operating systems and a desktop variant to track the locations of nearby bus stand, checking arrival times of buses. The bus stands will also have advanced features like digital screens to display the bus route numbers and the arrival times so that the waiting passengers would benefit,” an official well-versed with the project said.
The bus operation along with the mobile app will be integrated with the Command and Control Centre of the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited, commonly known as Bhubaneswar Operations Centre (BOC). Experts sitting at the BOC can also monitor the bus services and coordinate with the mobile app service.
