post news network, Bhubaneswar, April 17: On the occasion of the 19th death anniversary of the late Biju Patnaik, the city remembered its great leader. From early morning different programmes were held all across the city where people gathered to honour and remember the leader.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik along with other ministers garlanded the statue of Biju Patnaik at the state assembly early in the morning. Later he visited the Samadhi of Biju Patnaik at Swargadwar, Puri and gave floral tribute to the leader and his father.
In an another programme the members of Utkal Samilani gathered in the Biju Patnaik Park and garlanded the statue of the leader and observed a two-minute silence in remembrance of the leader.
A photo exhibition was also organised by the Information and Public Relations department to mark the death anniversary of the departed soul at the Soochana Bhawan. The exhibition was inaugurated by the commissioner-cum-secretary of the Information and Public Relations department, Madhusudan Padhi.
All his achievements and works were projected in the form of photographs in the exhibition, which gave detailed information about the family background of the leader; his youth life, his professional life as a pilot and a politician and his other activities.
“Biju Patnaik is one of the great leaders of the country and his work for the country and the state can’t be forgotten. Through this exhibition the department is trying to highlight all the basic achievements of the leader which made him popular among people. We hope that the exhibition will help people to know about the Biju Patnaik,” said Padhi.
In another programme organised by the Biju Patnaik Smruti Committee, distinguished persons from different fields were felicitated at the Biju Patnaik Ground. The culture and tourism minister Ashok Chandra Panda attended the function. Felicitating all the achievers, Panda said that selfless work for the development of the state would help Orissa to progress and for this contribution of the people of the state was necessary.
