Berhampur: A Class X girl allegedly died by suicide in Berhampur after being accused of examination malpractice, sparking concerns over board exam pressure and student mental stress, officials and family members said Monday.
The incident occurred February 21, shortly after the student returned home from her English exam. She was a matriculation examinee and had appeared for the test earlier that day.
According to family members, the girl was distressed after a chit was allegedly found in her possession near the main gate of the examination center. They claimed school authorities charged her with malpractice and some teachers scolded and warned her, which they believe affected her mental state.
At around 6 pm that evening, the girl was found dead at her residence, her family said.
Authorities of VV Giri Government Girls’ High School, where the student appeared for the examination, denied allegations that she was threatened. School officials said no intimidation took place.
