Bhubaneswar, August 26: A first of its kind artificial climbing wall in the state was inaugurated at the Utkal Karate School by Orissa sports and youth affairs secretary Saswat Mishra here Friday. Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) East Zone member Ujjwal Ganguli and Orissa branch director of National Adventurous Sports Association Rabindra Kumar Bhuyan were also present during the inauguration of this 45 ft wall.
“To promote sports climbing in the state, the artificial climbing wall has been set up here,” stated Rabindra. “A state level sports climbing competition will be organised at the School premises, September 24-25,” he added during the press meet.
The competition will be conducted in six categories. Interested candidates can get in touch with Utkal Karate School immediately.
Meanwhile, Hari Patnaik, founder UKS, stated that the climbing wall will be of great help to budding mountaineers. “The aim is to help promising talents as well as the experienced climbers. Now they don’t have to go to other states to train,” said Hari.
