Bhubaneswar, Nov 10: Manas Ranjan Parida emerged champion of the VIIIth Sudeep Memorial chess tournament, which concluded here Tuesday. Manas garnered a total of eight points from nine rounds to take the top honours. Manas performed splendidly throughout the tournament.
Prakash Ranjan Sahoo finished runner-up with a score of 7.5 points. Birakishore Behera also bagged the same number of points, but had to be satisfied with the third position on the basis of the tie breaker. Santosh Kumar Sinha was fifth, while Jagannath Mohanty finished sixth. Bansidhar Bhoi was adjudged the best veteran player, while Rashmita Patra bagged the best woman award.

SAI-STC, Sunrise win
SAI-STC and Sunrise Club scripted emphatic victories in different matches of the FAO Football First Division League at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, Tuesday.
In the first match, Sunrise rode on a brace by Stanley Ifeangeeze to scrape past Mangala Club 3-1. He scored in the fourth and 10th minutes respectively. Ambika Lakra found the back of the net in the 82nd minute. Tapas Rout got one back for Mangala Club in the 70th minute.
In the second match, SAI STC routed Sunshine Club 9-0. Rajesh Nayak scored four goals including a hat-trick to lead their attack. Rajesh scored in the 32nd, 56th, 67th and 71st minutes respectively. Saswat Swain also struck a hat-trick finding the back of the nets in the fifth, 45th and 52nd minutes. Doman Marandi (16th minute) and Lakhai Murmu (24th minute) struck
once each.
