Puri: Four fishermen who had gone missing in Chilika waters had a close shave after their fishing boat capsized in the middle of the lagoon Wednesday night. The four, feared drowned after their boat capsize, were rescued Thursday morning.
According to sources, the four from Kaudikhunti village under Kanas block in Puri district had been to fishing in the deep waters of Chillika lake Wednesday. Their boat began to sink after the Nor’wester rain started lashing the region late at night. Since then, there was no clue about the whereabouts of the fishermen. Locals feared they drowned.
A fire brigade team with help of locals rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. The team did a search throughout the night that helped it trace the four Thursday.
“Rain accompanied by strong winds started lashing around 11pm. The wind grew strong and it was impossible to control the boat. The boat developed problems and we got off it to save our lives,” said one of the rescued fishermen.
Meanwhile, four persons were injured in a boat mishap in the No. 7 Island of Chilika lake.
