Bhubaneswar, Jan 15: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Thursday encouraged police personnel to become tech-savvy and use the latest gadgets for better policing.
“In this age of fast-changing technology, the latest technology must be incorporated by the police,” said the Chief Minister at the Raising Day celebrations of the Commissionerate of Police, Bhubaneswar and
Cuttack, here.
“I am happy that today a mobile application of the Commissionerate Police has been unveiled. This would help the police in reaching out to the masses by using the benefits of modern communication technology,” Patnaik said.
“I call upon all members of the police force to make use of technology to improve their overall performance and provide a safe and secure atmosphere to all the citizens, especially women and senior citizens,” he said.
Patnaik said his government plans to augment the manpower of police stations and encourage use of technical and electronic gadgets.
“To enable the commissionerate police to achieve their objectives, augmentation of police station level manpower, strengthening PCR system, revamping traffic management and use of technical and electronic gadgets in policing are some of the aspects under active consideration of the state government,” the Chief Minister said.
“I understand that the commissionerate police has already chalked out an action plan for effective policing. The commissionerate is installing CCTV cameras at important locations and activating the CCTNS project,” he said.
Several initiatives have been taken to create a people-friendly image of the police, the Chief Minister said.
“Steps such as police-public interface, activation of the senior citizens’ security cell, public awareness programmes for crime control, imparting training to all police personnel on improving behaviour and attitude, and reaching out to people through an interactive website have instilled in the public renewed faith and confidence,” he said.
The Chief Minister focused on women’s safety and security. “The Mahila police stations have been instrumental in encouraging women to approach police with their grievances fearlessly. The officers are mandated to ensure that crimes against women receive zero tolerance. The Pink Auto project, self defence training module for women and the women support centres are some of the important steps introduced for women’s safety and security,” he said.
Patnaik also said that there is a need to work harder to spruce up the traffic management system.
The Chief Minister congratulated the commissioner of police, and other personnel of Orissa Police on the occasion of the Raising Day. “I urge the commissionerate police to deliver their best in their service,” he said.
