Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has launched a web-based application for the online registration of senior citizens under the Senior Citizen Security Cell (SCSC) of Orissa police. He also released a handbook detailing the dos and don’ts for senior citizens at an event held at the Rabindra Mandap here Friday.
Addressing the gathering, Patnaik said: “It is of great pleasure that Commissionerate police has launched a web application for the benefit of the senior citizens.” He called for speedy investigations into matters related to women, children and senior citizens. He also advised CP to carry out regular performance appraisals of investigations into these.
Commissionerate police should always serve the people especially the women, children and the elderly persons with compassion and empathy, the Chief Minister said.
Senior citizens, from anywhere in the state, can now register themselves with the SCSCs under the local police stations browsing the Common Application Portal of state government (Lokseba-odisha.in).
SCSCs were first started in a handful of police stations of the capital in 2009. However, now all the 20 PSs of Bhubaneswar and 18 PSs of Cuttack have cells for senior citizens.
Currently, 6,836 senior citizens in Bhubaneswar and 4,499 in Cuttack have registered under the SCSCs. As per the rules, nodal officers and assistant nodal officers visit the houses of registered elderly persons. They are required to ensure their safety aspects by advising them to install various security measures.
Apart from the Additional Chief Secretary Asit Trpathy and Director General of Police RP Sharma, many top police officials and senior citizens were present at the event.
